Temple: The Tenryu-ji branch. The chief abbot of Tenryu-ji, the former Zen master of Tenryu-ji monastery.

Data: Pen name: Hatsuun-ken, Shuzui-ken. Dharma transmission from Seki Bokuou. He studied Buddhism and philosophy under Honda Giei PhD and Hisamatsu Shin'ichi PhD in Kyoto University. He entered the Tenryu-ji monastery in 1950. He went to Heidelberg University in Germany to study philosophy for two years from 1961. He became Zen master in 1971 and was recommended to be the chief abbot in 1991.
